My last best friend was secretly closeted during out friendship & when he came out as gay, he wanted to end the relationship because he was attracted to me, but I'm not gay myself. I told him that I still wanted to be friends and that it doesn't bother me, but I'm not into that stuff you know. He thought it was best for us to stop being friends and I haven't seen him since. He was my bestfriend in High School, but I'm just glad he feels comfortable with himself and if it has to sacrifice the relationship, then it happens. but I was heartbroken for awhile after that. It wasn't the first and I'm sure it won't be the last.
